Hats and bracelets in Kathmandu
There isn't anyone in the world who would describe Peter as a sports fan. He spends zero hours per year watching sports on TV or discussing any big games, playoffs, or personalities. Zero. Still, he randomly ends up with baseball caps with logos of famous teams. Usually, it is because he needed a hat at the last minute and finds one in a discount bin. Or someone lends him a hat. Or whatever. He has a bunch of baseball caps with teams on them, and when he wears them fans of those teams always want to bond over what they perceive is a shared love.
Or sometimes to tell them how that particular team is the absolute worst.
In addition to all Peter's climbing gear (which is A LOT), he also packed extra stuff in case he "loses" anything. While I don't think he's exactly lying, I also don't think it is a coincidence that his extra stuff often has a sports logo. These kinds of sport-logo items always get a lot of attention when we're abroad. And generally, when people like his hat (or whatever) there's usually a fun conversation and interaction.
Peter's New England Patriots hat mostly comes out when he is going to see our friend Craig. Craig is not a Patriots fan which makes Peter want to wear this hat in his presence at every opportunity.
It isn't surprising that on Peter's first day out of quarantine in Kathmandu, he had someone comment on his Patriots hat. Also not surprising, they decided to make a trade.
