Kathmandu to Lukla

Peter had an early morning flight from Kathmandu to Lukla.

When I last heard from him, he was looking for his porter at the Lukla airport. The rules require him to have a porter for this portion of the trip. He'll also have a Sherpa for the climb above base camp, but that will be a different person. A "porter" generally carries your gear. (Does anyone want to guess whether Peter is actually willing to let anyone else carry his gear? He's usually the one that carries the heavy gear for other people! Giving his bag to someone else will definitely require swallowing some pride.) A "Sherpa" is generally more specialized for high-altitude mountaineering. The name actually denotes a specific ethnic group in Nepal, it is used as their surname. But often you'll see the words porter and Sherpa mixed because the roles can be blurred.) This porter will accompany him to Namche Bazaar, about 2 days of walking from Lukla.
