Acclimatization in Namche Bazaar
Peter chose a hotel in Namche Bazaar based on where other expeditions are staying. While that wouldn't usually be his tendency, he wants to stay at a place with a very busy kitchen, in hopes that the food will be fresh. He's not usually a particularly fastidious guy, but he's really taking precautions to stay as healthy as possible right now.
When he got to the hotel, they said they were full, but when he pressed they found a room for him. It costs about $4.50. Tomorrow when one of the expeditions leaves, he'll upgrade to a fancier $9 room. (It is very common in these towns to find very low prices on hotels, the expectation is that you will eat all your meals with them and they'll make money that way.)
He sent me this image, the view from his bed:
The weather forecast looks cold, but sunny(ish).
Now at just over 11,000 feet, he says he can definitely feel the altitude, getting winded much more easily than normal. His plan is to lay low for a few days to acclimatize...and take advantage of all the movies and TV shows he downloaded before he left.
