Eric at Camp 4

Eric is at the Sout Col (Camp 4)! They plan to rest today and hope that the winds and crowds will be favorable for a summit bid tomorrow.

I got some messages from him:
Just arrived in camp 4. Big day and crazy windy. Hopefully that will change. So glad Peter is feeling better. That was a bit of a scare. We are taking a rest day tomorrow to see if the wind dies down and plot our strategy. The most sublime beauty from up here. Truly out of this world. I think most are so dead set on the climb and summit they don't even look. Explains why they get mad when I stop to take pics. Bad pics, but get to keep fingers and toes.

I know some teams had been planning on a summit attempt starting today. Summit bids from the South Col can start anywhere between 8 pm and 1 a.m. depending on conditions. From what I've read, there's a lot of fresh snow. So those first teams will have the tough task of breaking trail. That's no joke on what is already a very long, hard day on an established snow path. For those who are planning on a summit bid tomorrow, it would be ideal if a bunch of teams went today to make the path through the snow.

IMG is one of the teams that announced a summit bid starting today, at 9 pm Nepal time. I'm tracking one climber's GPS on that team. She is not moving yet. No announcement at this time, but it is possible that they decided to wait out the winds and try tomorrow.

Madison Mountaineering has announced that they too are taking a rest day/waiting for the winds to die down.

So, given the time difference and the usual start times, it could be 24 hours before we start seeing teams on the move unless there are any who decide to brave the winds today.
