Camp 3 to Camp 2, and back down to Base Camp
I've been able to follow their tracks as they've come down from Camp 3. After one night of sleeping at Camp 3, they descended back to Camp 2. Not surprisingly, it took them about half the time on the descent as it did when they climbed to Camp 3 the day before.
After one night sleeping at Camp 2, they went all the way back to Base Camp. I think they may have forgotten to turn on their GPS at the start, so I don't have a total time comparison on this section, but, not surprisingly, the section from Camp 1 to Base Camp, through the Khumbu Icefall, again took them half the time it took them when they went up.I again zoomed in on that section between roughly 18,700 ft and 19,700 ft that had been such a zig-zag route on the way up. It looks really different this time. Whether that is from the change in the route as things have shifted and the Icefall Doctors re-set the route, or whether this is the "down" route that they create in some places to prevent crowding, I'm not sure.
This was their route on the way up through the Icefall 10 days ago:
I'm expecting more communication now that they're back in the relative metropolis of Everest Base Camp. I look forward to talking to Peter! According to their original schedule, they'd planned to spend a few days recovering in Base Camp before doing one more round back up again for more acclimatization, then back again to base camp and another rest before a mid-May summit push.
