Rest Days in Namche Bazaar
Since Namche Bazaar is the biggest and most well-equipped village in the Khumbu valley, most climbers spend several days there to acclimatize. While your body adjusts to the elevation change, you can be pretty comfortable and enjoy good food.
Peter didn't bother upgrading to the fancy $9 room. He said he was cozy enough in his $4.50 room.
I noticed right away that he isn't yet sleeping in his sleeping bag. He was pretty pleased with that. While his bags are warm and comfortable, the feeling of regular cotton sheets next to your skin is much nicer!
From Peter:
I can eat but I reminded myself. Not the normal “keep your
fingers away from my mouth” kinda thing.
Finished breakfast. I keep ordering omelette with cheese but
the cheese must be for special occasions.
Chapati and “cheese omelette” without the cheese last two
mornings. “Fried rice with two eggs” too but comes without the egg.
I just paid my bill. $55 for 3 nights, 6 meals, a shower,
laundry and several bottles of hot water.
While he was in Namche, he walked around to the neighboring villages giving his body the opportunity for a little bit of exercise while his body adjusts to the altitude.
Keep the updates going! What a great adventure. I think I need to go climb Mt. Adams in honor of Peter's efforts. Maybe when the snow slows down.
ReplyDelete@Evan - Great plan. Or maybe about Mt. Saint Helen's on Mothers' Day?
