Punta Arenas, Chile
While life on board was pretty fabulous, we did occasionally get off the ship.
In Punta Arenas, Chile, we arranged for a great excursion with Heather and Ryan.
We had a fairly quick tour around town...
...which was awash in spring blooms.
Rumor has it that if you kiss the toe of this statue that you'll someday return to Punta Arenas.
Um, I guess we won't be coming back.
But the main focus of the day was sea kayaking in the Straits of Magellan.
Doesn't that just sound like a cool thing to do?
Once we were suited up...
..and had just a little warm-up practice on shore...
...we were off!
And after a lovely, sunny time paddling, the weary travellers headed up the beach...
...and over to a small hacienda...
...for some hot drinks and home-made cakes and cookies.
An altogether delightful day, made even better by using the last of our Chilean currency on some Chilean red (selecting the wine entirely based on how much money we had left)...
...and then getting back to the ship to discover that Peter's backpack had finally arrived!
Slightly the worse for wear, but still filled with enough clothes that he no longer had to rely on Levi's and rental tuxedos 24/7!
