Mama Owen

When we were in Michigan for Christmas, Soren made a note whenever Auntie Amanda called cousin Luke by his first and middle name..."Luke Owen". He didn't know what Owen meant, but he knew that it had something to do with being naughty.

Today, while we were playing I did something he didn't like and he sternly looked at me and said "Mama Owen!"

Out With the Flu

So sorry I haven't posted this week. I have the flu! Let me tell you, that sickness needs a new name - "flu" sounds waaaaaay too inocuous. The fever broke last night though so it appears that there is a slight chance that I might live. I just hope that Peter and Soren don't come down with it now. This morning Soren asked if we were going to Denny's for our traditional Thursday morning family breakfast day. I told him we couldn't because I was sick. His response: "Who sicked you?"

Latest Sorenisms

Lately Soren's said some really funny things. Here are a few:

* Last night he said about one of his penguin toys "well, he is certainly small."

* "Mommy, my tugboat is feeling nervous."

* I didn't hear this one myself, but my brother-in-law insists that Soren told him that Gordon (the train) looked indignant. What was really funny about that is I was in the other room and my brother-in-law yells out "Hey, what does indignant mean?" LOL.

Soren has also been a total eating and sleeping machine lately. Crazy. For the past 2 weeks been taking 4 hour naps (normally he sleeps for 2 hours, max) and then an hour longer than usual every night. And he is eating a TON! Must be a growth spurt coming.

My First Teacher

Recently Soren has been asking "Mama, be my first teacher." At first I was confused because I had no idea what he was after. But the other night he came up to me with his little back pack saying "Mama, be my first teacher." So I thought I'd try. I put his back pack on and we pretended to walk to the bus stop. He told me that Peter was the bus so he climbed on Peter's lap and Peter pretended to drive him to school.

When he got to school he climbed down and came back to me. I welcomed him as if I was the teacher and told him to sit down for the lessons. We sang a few songs, did the ABC's, counted using fingers (holding up hands to show 1-5), and even some exercises (we're working on jumping jacks - currently only the part with the legs though!) I also gave him a brief lesson on bunnies where we pretended to hold and pet them. He was a very good student. Then we pretended to have a snack and he put his backpack on, got back on the bus and went home.

He's a very attentive student. :-)

Where in the world do they come up with this stuff?

Hi Grandma P!

We've been so delinquent in blogging lately...just wanted to say hi to Grandma P and tell her that we haven't stopped blogging. Just haven't had too many interesting stories lately!

Children's Museum

While we were in Michigan we had a chance to spend a morning at the Grand Rapids Children's Museum. Fun!

Fun in the bubbles:

Fun with physics. Or gravity? Or maybe gravity is physics?

Just Like Auntie Amanda

My sister Amanda is 6 months pregnant. Soren was pretty intrigued with the idea that she had a baby in her tummy. While he was playing alone recently I snuck up on him to find him trying to stuff a baby doll under his shirt. When I asked what he was doing he said he wanted a baby in his tummy "just like Auntie Amanda."

(Fortunately for Amanda I haven't noticed her baby's leg dangling out quite yet...)

Here Come the Christmas Photos...

Happy New Year! We did make it home uneventfully on the 30th. We came close to getting bumped on the flight from Michigan to Chicago, but in the end they didn't need our seat. Flying home first class was nice. Peter took full advantage of the fact that they serve free drinks there. Soren took advantage by reclining sideways in his roomy seat during his nap. And I was thrilled not to be crammed in a middle seat between wiggly Soren and broad-shouldered Peter. It was a nice trip.

As so many of you commented, his haircut was pretty shocking. I don't tend to get too sentimental about it - it is only hair after all. But I have to admit some heartache seeing those incredible locks fall to the floor. For months people have commented whereever we go on how beautiful his hair is. Sigh. But it was just getting too long. And I do love his new haircut. (Plus I suppose those curls will come back!) Not too surprisingly, he doesn't care one way or another. And he loves it when Grandpa cuts his hair (Grandpa is the only person to ever cut Soren's hair.)

I took tons of pictures and video while we were out there. So I'll upload them to the blog this week. Here is a video of Soren playing with Luke on the most popular Christmas present of the year, don't you just love the squeals of delight?
