Cousin Luke

One of the very best reasons to go to Michigan (and there are sooo many!) is to watch Soren play with his cousin Luke. They are just now getting to an age where they are actually interested in each other.

Don't they look like they are conspiring for a big adventure?

Luke hates touching the grass. So when he falls down he refuses to put his hands on the grass and push himself up. Here's a picture of Soren helping Luke get up. Awww.

Soren's 2nd Birthday!

Today is Soren's second birthday! We've been talking it for several weeks already and he's been really excited about it. In fact, at a baby shower recently he was sure it was a birthday party for him when he saw all the people gathered around a cake!

While we were in Michigan we had a Thomas the Train birthday party for him with Grandpa and Grandma, Auntie Amanda, Uncle Dan and cousin Luke. It was great!

Birthday boy with mama.

Last night Soren was drawing. Happyily scribbling away, he'd announce "I'm drawing dada!" or "That's dada". After a few minutes of this he picked up his pen and looked right up the barrel and asked "dada in there?"

Not funny.

Yesterday as we were out working on the yard, Peter took a break and layed down in the driveway. Soren ran up and wanted to lay right next to him. Peter tested Soren's imaginative skills by seeing what he shapes he could see in the clouds.

Peter: Look there's a dog!
(Soren looking around quizically)
Peter: And over there, that's Italy.
(Soren growing more confused)
Peter: And right there, there's a horse!
Soren: Dada, you are not funny. That is a cloud!

Planting season begins

Soren's love of all things related to being outside has fun plant stuff to do inside. Peter has set up a small green house to start his vegetables, and Soren has been helpful in planting the seeds.

PBJ face, part II

It appears that the PBJ face may be a recurring theme on this blog. But who can resist running for the camera when confronted with such a tiny face coated in jam?

Sorry about the tipped over perspective...still not sure how to fix that.

Multi-dimensional guy

Soren's working to cultivate both his masculine and feminine sides. He likes showing off his beefcake poses, and yet he's pretty happy with a vaccuum cleaner (albeit, not a plugged in vaccuum cleaner...)

Hike in McDonald Forest

I took the day off on Friday, so we took advantage of the nice weather to take a hike. Soren was very helpful and laid out a good plan according to the map.

Which way do we go?

We weren't too far down the trail before we needed to take a break though.

Yogurt break

But once Soren found himself a stick just like daddy's we were on our way again.

I need a stick just like dada

He actually did a pretty good job. We brought the backpack for him but he was pretty excited about walking himself. It wasn't quite the same pace we are used to (seems that slowing down to hit every leaf near the trail does impede our progress a bit) but he did cover quite a bit of ground.

We passed a few enormous trees that were all covered in moss. A very Northwest setting, but he found the trees spooky. He was in the backpack at this time and started on the longest string of sentences I'd ever heard..."Mama, let's go to the car. It's not safety. This is not an adventure. I'm hungry. I want pizza. Mama, it's not safety." and on and on... Once we convinced him that the trees weren't a threat (that they were "safety" after all) he settled into his backpack to sing for the rest of the hike.
