Roatan

Well, at last a few minutes for a blog update. It isn't neccessarily that we've been too busy to get online (how busy can you actually be on a laid back Carribean island?) It has just felt like such a long walk from my hammock to the Internet office! But today we're having gale force winds (or something like that, since I don't actually know what gale force wind is) and so our dive boat isn't going out. And that hammock is really swinging, so that rather than risk that I thought a blog update might be a good idea.

We've had such a great time here. So much so that Peter and I have decided that we really need to plan more dive vacations. Hurrah! This means that my obsessive travel planning self can get to work as soon as we get home to figure out where and when the next vacation could be.

It hasn't been all fun and laughs though. Peter was done in by some bad schnitzel in the jungle and was down pretty hard for a day and a half when we first arrived. I was affected to a much lesser extent (being not a very big schitzel fan.) Peter was pretty much holed up in a corner of the ferry for our trip over to Roatan. Soren and I were having a grand ol' time...well, until Soren started puking from the high swells. Poor kid had never puked before and was pretty shocked that his body could do such a thing to him. But what broke my heart the most was that after the puking stopped, he apologized to me for making such a mess! Poor thing. But post-puke he was his normal happy self, just a happy shirtless self.

We're staying in a small ocean-front cabin. It has a big hammock right on the front porch. Soren has become quite the hammock connisseur and spends as much time as possible swinging in it. We need to take care when we lay in in now though since I'm pretty sure that there are quite a few spots encrusted with smeared peanut butter!

Peter and I have been taking turns diving. One of us will stay with Soren while the other goes out on a fabulous boat dive. The diving has been really terrific. Lots of beautiful coral, spectacular fish, and interesting critters. The level of diving is generally pretty high, and so we've been able to do some fairly long dives. I was hoping to do a wreck dive tomorrow, but the winds are expected to last a few days, and so that may need to change. We'll see.

On Roatan they speak mostly English. Soren has definitely noticed and even commented about it. He really does seem to understand the whole concept about how people speak different languages now and that is pretty interesting to watch.
Hm, not sure what else to say. Our days are full and fun, but not neccessarily a lot to talk about. We play at the pool, at the beach, walk in the jungle, dive, eat great tropical fruits, and sleep soundly while listening to the crashing waves. It is a great complement to our more active itinerary earlier. We're having a great time.

Sorry to hear about the bad schnitzel.
