Ok....so from the brief view we got of sausage...we think he might be a box elder bug. If he is still around, the best way to water him would be a cotton ball slightly moist. Not too moist! You don't want to drown him. They feed on the leaves, flowers and seedpods of the female or seedbearing box elder trees. They also may feed on the fruits of almond, apple, cherry, peach, pear, and plum trees. Oh and also on grapes. Hopefully this will help Sausage live a happy healthy life. Oh....he might hibernate over winter....but in the warmth of the house...you might get lucky. Good Luck.
