Hike in McDonald Forest

I took the day off on Friday, so we took advantage of the nice weather to take a hike. Soren was very helpful and laid out a good plan according to the map.

Which way do we go?

We weren't too far down the trail before we needed to take a break though.

Yogurt break

But once Soren found himself a stick just like daddy's we were on our way again.

I need a stick just like dada

He actually did a pretty good job. We brought the backpack for him but he was pretty excited about walking himself. It wasn't quite the same pace we are used to (seems that slowing down to hit every leaf near the trail does impede our progress a bit) but he did cover quite a bit of ground.

We passed a few enormous trees that were all covered in moss. A very Northwest setting, but he found the trees spooky. He was in the backpack at this time and started on the longest string of sentences I'd ever heard..."Mama, let's go to the car. It's not safety. This is not an adventure. I'm hungry. I want pizza. Mama, it's not safety." and on and on... Once we convinced him that the trees weren't a threat (that they were "safety" after all) he settled into his backpack to sing for the rest of the hike.
