Thank you for Thomas

I know I've told some of you about how Soren loves to pray. Our routine is that we'll all hold hands, close our eyes and start saying things we're thankful for. It usually goes something like this:

"Thank you for Thomas (the train), thank you for Gordon (Thomas' friend), thank you for Toby (another character in the story), thank you for Chop Chop (Auntie Phaedra's dog)..." maybe a "thank you for dada and/or mama," then "Amen."

Well, lately it seems that while we are eating he always remember some huge oversight he made in his prayer. He has to stop everything, get us all to join hands and close our eyes again so that he can finish the prayer. Today he did it at lunch, all to say "thank you for tires."

Heaven helps us if he ever wins an Oscar, because he'll be back on stage 6 times after he's already made his acceptance speech!

Marker Boy

Trying to look casual... "Sure, yep, I'm cool here with no pants, one Wiggles slipper and ink markings all over my legs..."

He was successful and soon able to stroll through the park like a cool little man.

A funny ER story (is there such a thing?)

So, here is the scene: 4 a.m. Sunday morning. Peter and I have been up with Soren since midnight debating whether we need to call the doctor. As you know, we finally did call and they told us to take him in. So....as soon as I hear Peter say "ok, we're on our way" I ran to our room, grabbed the jeans that I'd worn that day off the floor, slipped them on and ran out to get Soren in the carseat. Peter and both jump in the front, and as Peter is backing out of the garage, I feel something BITE ME ON THE BACK OF THE LEG!!!

I shrieked and grabbed that area of my pants so that I trapped whatever critter was in there. I jumped out of the car yelling for Peter to help me. He runs over, holds the bunched up area of the pants as I wiggle out of them (are you picturing this frantic half-naked woman removing her jeans in the garage at 4 am?) I ran inside, put on another pair of pants and jumped back in the car. By this time, I'm aware that it was a pretty significant bite, because it is throbbing and burning. And remember, this is all about going to the emergency room because we are worried about our sick little boy!

So, as we are backing out of the driveway I asked Peter if he saw what was in my pants. His answer "uh, we'll talk about it later." Well, that isn't a good sign! So, as we're driving and have assessed that Soren is getting better with all the windows open, Peter says "you had a wasp in your pants." A wasp!

Ok, this is where I start thinking that this is just a bad karma weekend for us! How bad can it get?! A wasp - in February, in the house, and climbing in my pants as I'm trying to rush to the ER??? How bizarre. Fortunately, I'm not allergic - can you imagine if both Soren and I needed to see the ER doctor?! Anyway, I have a big red welt still, it itches quite a bit sometimes, but other than that it is fine.

Long weekend

This was a pretty long weekend for us. On Friday Peter took Soren to the doctor because he suddenly was having breathing difficulties. He'd had minor cold symptoms for two days, but suddenly it seemed to affect his breathing. The doctor diagnosed Croup and didn't like the way that it sounded. Croup generally gets much worse during the night and since sounded so bad during the day she wanted to be sure that we were in the hospital in case it worsened overnight. So on Friday Soren was admitted to the hospital.

Generally, he thought the hospital was a fun adventure. He received breathing treatments every four hours throughout the night and we were released in the morning.

Unfortunately, Saturday night wasn't an easy one. Between midnight and 4 am we went back and forth on whether to call the doctor. He'd stuggle to breathe, but then he'd get it under control. But at 4 am we did call and they advised us to head in to the ER. They also suggested that we bundle him up and travel with all the windows rolled down. Peter and I shivered on the drive, but by the time we got to the hospital Soren was doing just fine. He smiled and chatted with every one there, making us feel a bit silly for bringing him in! The doctors did give him some more meds and a prescription to help things heal more quickly. Last night was much better for us, so they do seem to be working.

Straws

When we were in San Diego we went to a restaurant where the style is having the waiters be sassy. When we were ordering our drinks, I asked the waiter for a "small glass of water" for Soren. The waiter brought an enormous glass with about 20 straws. Soren thought it was a blast and made good use of those straws.

Jumping on the bed

We just got back from a great trip to San Diego. Peter and Soren had fun making the rounds of all the museums (Soren now thinks the word "museum" is pretty much equal to "fun park"). I worked much of the time, but still got the opportunity for some fun outings - and great meals - with them.

Here is a video of Soren having a blast in the hotel, notice that he has already figured out how to do the baggy pants look of a teenager:
